Biden meets with US Jewish leaders ahead of Israel visit
“Joe Biden has been a friend of the State of Israel for many years,” said Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu ahead of the US Vice President’s scheduled visit to Jerusalem next week. “He has been a personal friend of mine for almost 30 years and I am convinced that this important visit to our region will contribute to advancing the diplomatic process and there are indications to this effect.”
Focusing on George Mitchell’s upcoming visit and the proximity talks with the PA, Netanyahu said, “In the end, our goal is to try and reach a peace agreement with our Palestinian neighbors via direct talks, but we have always said that we do not necessarily insist on this format. If this is what is necessary to start the process – Israel is ready. I think that there is international recognition that this Government wants to start a peace process and I tell you that we also want to complete it.”
Biden is meeting with key American Jewish leaders before his departure and will deliver a speech next week to Tel Aviv University students and lecturers.
According to Middle East analyst and columnist Caroline Glick, one of the main aims of Biden’s visit is to ensure a military attack against Iran’s nuclear sites is not on the table in the near future.
Glick claims that “despite his sweet talk,” Biden has been the biggest defender of Iran. “Maybe he will talk about the ‘American commitment to the security of Israel,’ but this would be a gross lie,” she told Arutz Sheva.
