Holocaust survivors to receive 90% discount on medicine
The government has decided to allocate NIS 50 million in subsidies for medication for Holocaust survivors, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced at this week’s Cabinet meeting on Sunday, the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Approximately 80,000 survivors of the camps and ghettos will receive discounts of up to 90% on medicine. He also announced the Cabinet is slated to approve significant electricity discounts for Holocaust survivors and disabled World War II veterans who are recognized as needy by local authorities.
“The fact that we are making these two decisions today, at the beginning of the Government’s second year in office, attests to our abiding commitment, as well as that of the entire country, to the survivors,” said Netanyahu.
Studies over the past decades have revealed many survivors suffer from financial strain and poverty, complex health problems because of their unique ordeals, social isolation and a lack of awareness of their rights.
