Netanyahu to Bible Quiz contestants: ‘It’s all in there’
by Dan Slobodkin
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told contestants in the International Bible Quiz he has been spending time on Shabbat studying Tanach.
The prime minister admitted his new study routine is encouraged and guided by his 15-year-old son Avner, who won the National Bible Quiz last month. During the talk with the contestants in the Prime Minister’s Office, he mentioned recently studying the passages about Joseph and his brothers as well as the Book of Judges, with “the terrible stories about the struggles between the Tribes of Israel that almost brought about our end.”
Just before Holocaust Remembrance Day he read from Isaiah “and his comforting prophecies. They are not only comforting for all of humanity, but for the people of Israel in its homeland.”
“It’s all there,” he added, “the book of life of the people of Israel, the story of life of the people of Israel, the language of life of the people of Israel – it’s all in the Bible.
The prime minister encouraged the contestants to continue their studies, citing the injunction to engage in Torah study “day and night,” and calling it “is the foundation upon which we all stand.”
